Amorphous Silica Extraction from Rice Husk

Rice husk, also known as rice hull, is the shell of rice after the rice milling process. It can be utilised in various ways from fertiliser to fuel in industrial factories or bio-power plants.

However, to optimise the utilisation and benefits of rice husk, industrial extraction of amorphous silica from rice husk seems to be the answer right now.

Although this concept is not novel, it is only on research paper on the time being. The most difficult challenge is to scale it up to successful industrial production with high business benefits.

But that's not EKASIL. EKASIL is a silica extraction project in Thailand that extracts amorphous silicon dioxide on an industrial scale from rice husk. The technology employed at the plant has been successfully scaled up and used in an industrial production with an initial production of 50 tons/month.

In terms of business profits, the technology generates an IRR of up 27% within a 3-year payback period. The silica products obtained from the production have a very high purity of up to 99.99 percent in an amorphous form. The applications of the products are various and covers a wide range of user industries, such as pharmacy, tires, rubber, paint, cosmetics industries, etc.
